Job Summary:
To design custom steel grain storage bins, ensuring safety and compliance. This role involves collaborating with sales staff, providing technical advice, inspecting project sites, and overseeing the preparation of detailed engineering drawings. Additionally, the individual will coordinate design to designers and/or drafters for final design and manufacture.
Essential Job Requirements:
A Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with ten years of work experience or a Bachelor’s degree with fifteen years of work experience is required. Professional Engineering licensure also required. The ideal candidate should have experience with tower support structures for overhead catwalks, catwalks for agricultural conveying equipment, and support structures for elevated tanks. Knowledge of building codes related to agricultural applications and a basic understanding of agriculture and grain storage are beneficial. Proficiency in Solidworks or other solid modeling CAD software is helpful, and preferred experience with RISA.
Preferred Skills:
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft O365, Solidworks experience, and Solidworks Enterprise PDM software experience
Job Duties:
- Manages and directs the concepts, design, and execution of project
- Extensive knowledge of applicable building codes and design standards (IBC, ASCE 7, AISC) with the ability to reasonably interpret
- Calculates loads and stresses on structures, investigates the strength of members and beams, and determines whether a structure can function safely
- Works with sales staff to engineer custom steel structures to required specifications
- Coordinates design to designer/drafter for final design and manufacture
- Assists with troubleshooting manufacturing issues and issues with steel structures in real world applications and recommend repair and/or modification
- Checks work to ensure accuracy of spelling, drawing format and organization, dimension and tolerance convention, and conformance with Engineering Standards
- Conduct structure evaluations and forensic investigation
- Knowledge of bin foundation design as it pertains to issues caused by foundation problems
- Mentor EIT’s in structural engineering
- Comfortable with and ability to make critical engineering decisions with minimal oversight
